Week 1, Term 4
Dear Parents,
Swim school starts this Monday. Please remember to pack swimmers, towels and sunscreen.
This term promises to be an exciting one for students. It is short - only 9 weeks and we have lots to achieve in that time.
I am starting on reading contracts from week 1 as part of reading groups. Students will be expected to borrow and read a book in class time and complete some set work on it each week. If your child is reading a favourite book at home, he or she can bring it in to read during reading groups.
There will be a number of variations to routine over the next few weeks as the school is currently a construction site. Please look out for signage to advise you of safety issues.

Week 10, Term 3
Dear Parents,
Monday is our Colonial Day. We will be learning all about the first fleet and the early colonial years in Sydney. I can't wait to see all the costumes!!
There is no homework this week - stress free!! Holidays start on the long weekend and don't forget that children come back to school on the Monday in term 4. There is no staff development day at the beginning of term 4.

Week 6 Term 3
Dear Parents,
This week is National Literacy and Numeracy Week and Wednesday is National Reading Day. To celebrate the contribution that fathers make in reading, all fathers and male caregivers are invited to a morning tea in the library.
4V will continue to read poetry and share their enthusiasm for reading this week. Speeches will also continue this week. I have heard many a great speech so far and have learnt much about wonderful inventions that I didn't know about. Well done everyone! Don't forget the Spellathon on Friday - have a great week everyone,

Week 5 Term 3
Dear Parents,
Celebrate book week with us! This week grandparents are invited to join us in class as we read and they are encouraged to go on a book safari in the library at recess with their grandchildren. Wednesday is Safari mufti day and all week we will celebrare by reading poetry in class.
Last week 4V went to Kindergarten to teach them how to write a recount. They made a wonderful PowerPoint presentation explaining the steps involved, which two students presented to KH. The next day they returned with a PowerPoint presentation that only had pictures of the Brewongle visitors in sequence. They then sat with one kindergarten child between two year 4 children and typed the oral recount for them. This week they will be back to do some final editing.
Class speeches are due this week. It would be wonderful if every child has had the opportunity to practise their speech at home.

Week 4 Term 3
Dear Parents,
Last week and this week we are focussing on multiplication. Students are encouraged to learn their 4 times tables this week and reflect upon the commutative law of multiplication. (Ask your kids!) We are still writing recounts and focussing on expanding our writing to include more detail. Students are still involved with the PowerPoint presentation, which should be ready early in the week. In HSIE students have been learning about the early history of Australia, including Aboriginal history.
Dads, please remember the morning tea we are organising for you on the 2nd of September. We would love to see you!

Week 3 Term 3
Dear Parents,
We have had a few technical hitches with the anti-smoking videos. Sadly I won't be able to download and burn them onto a disc. I will keep you informed of further developments.
We had an excellent incursion with Bundeluk from the Brewongle Environmental Education Centre. The students learned about Aboriginal technologies, heard Dreamtime stories, watched the production of an artwork and engaged in some face and body painting. I have taken some great photos, which I will share with the students. 4V will be involved in teaching Kindergarten about recounts using the shared Brewongle experience. They will be producing PowerPoint presentations with their young buddies.
For homework this week students in 4V have to choose a great invention that they wish to talk about. The talk has to be 2 minutes long and the class winner will go to the next round to determine the year winners. The class competition will start in week 5.
